SEREMBAN, July 24 — DAP strategic director Liew Chin Tong highlighted the party’s historical roots in Negeri Sembilan while campaigning for Pakatan Harapan’s Lobak state seat candidate Chew Seh Yang, describing the constituency as a significant part of the party’s political journey.

Speaking at a campaign event, Liew recounted that DAP was founded in Negeri Sembilan, noting that three months before the party was officially registered, its founder and pro tem chairman, Dr Chen Man Hin, won the Rahang state by-election in December 1965. Rahang is located adjacent to the Lobak state constituency.

Liew also reflected on the political journey of DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, who joined the party as a teenager and remained with it after its poor performance in the 1999 general election.

He said Loke was entrusted with helping rebuild the party and was appointed political secretary to then DAP secretary-general Kerk Kim Hock in 2002.

Drawing on his experience in party organisation and grassroots service, Loke returned to Seremban to contest the Lobak state seat in the 2004 general election, where he defeated the Barisan Nasional candidate to win the constituency.

According to Liew, Loke’s victory in what he described as DAP’s birthplace marked one of the party’s key milestones in its resurgence on the national political stage.

Liew thanked Lobak residents for their continued support of DAP and Pakatan Harapan, pledging that the coalition would honour the trust placed in it and fulfil its commitments.

He also urged voters to continue supporting Pakatan Harapan to ensure the coalition remains in power in Negeri Sembilan.
