KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has said the party is prepared to face PAS in the upcoming Johor state election should both parties contest the same seats.

Speaking after a meeting of Bersatu’s Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) on Tuesday night, Muhyiddin said any potential clashes were the result of the absence of discussions with PAS regarding seat allocations for the Johor polls.

“There are no more discussions to be held. You contest there, you contest here, and if we end up contesting the same seats, so be it,” he was quoted as saying by Harian Metro.

Muhyiddin added that Bersatu would announce its list of candidates for the Johor state election in the near future.

At the same time, he stressed that Bersatu does not want any conflict within Perikatan Nasional (PN), but is prepared for any eventuality following PAS’ decision to end political cooperation with the party.

“That was a decision made based on their own considerations. We accept it and have already issued an official statement clarifying that the decision was made by PAS, not Bersatu.

“We are ready to fight. Why should we be afraid? This is politics. We will face whatever comes, and we will succeed,” he said, according to Sinar Harian.

Muhyiddin also said PN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar should convene a meeting involving all component parties to discuss seat allocations for the Johor state election.

The latest remarks come amid growing uncertainty within the opposition coalition after PAS formally ended its political cooperation with Bersatu.

Speaking at the Reset Convention in Kelantan on June 13, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang declared that the party’s relationship with Bersatu had come to an end, leaving it up to Muhyiddin’s party to decide whether it wished to remain in PN.

Abdul Hadi also announced that Parti Wawasan Negara, led by Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin and formed by former Bersatu members who were expelled from the party, would be admitted into PN.

“PAS has agreed, and we have parted ways with Bersatu.

“It is up to them whether they want to leave or remain in PN. That is their decision.

“As for Parti Wawasan Negara joining PN, there is no issue,” he said.
