KUALA LUMPUR, June 17 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) will remain a component party of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and will contest the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections using the coalition’s logo, party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
Muhyiddin stressed that Bersatu cannot be removed from PN through a unilateral decision by any single party.
“We will continue to remain a member of PN, and no party has the authority to expel Bersatu from the coalition unilaterally,” he told reporters after chairing a Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council meeting at the party’s headquarters on Tuesday night.
He said any move to remove Bersatu from PN must comply with the coalition’s constitution and procedures.
“According to the constitution, there are specific provisions and clauses that must be adhered to. Those involved must comply with these provisions and any decision must be reached through consensus,” he said.
The Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections are scheduled to be held on July 11 and Aug 1, respectively.
Also present at the press conference were Bersatu vice-presidents Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin and Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, as well as the party’s secretary-general, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Muhyiddin’s remarks came after PAS officially announced that it was ending all forms of political cooperation with Bersatu.
