MELAKA, 18 May 2026 — The Melaka Chief Minister Ab Rauf Yusof has described the return of 190 former Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) members and local NGO representatives to UMNO in Masjid Tanah as a positive sign of renewed confidence in the party.
The re-entry of the members took place during a programme titled “Sireh Pulang Ke Gagang” held last night in the Masjid Tanah parliamentary constituency posted in Facebook.
According to the Chief Minister, the returning members were not merely submitting membership forms but were also bringing with them renewed trust, conviction, and commitment towards UMNO’s political struggle. He said this reflected UMNO’s continued role as a platform for Malay unity and political stability.
The membership submission was led by Puan Aliza binti Abd Yasin, chairperson of the Pertubuhan Progresif Masjid Tanah, a local non-governmental organisation. The group’s return is expected to strengthen UMNO and Barisan Nasional’s grassroots machinery across all five state legislative assembly (DUN) areas within the Masjid Tanah parliamentary constituency.
The Chief Minister also linked the development to the party’s “Rumah Bangsa” (National Home) concept, introduced by UMNO’s leadership, which aims to consolidate support, strengthen cooperation among members, and reinforce political organisation at the local level.
He added that the latest wave of rejoining members signals growing public reassessment of political alignment, and expressed confidence that UMNO remains committed to its agenda of stability, development, and national progress.
Welcoming the returning members, he said their decision marked a renewed chapter in strengthening the party’s presence in Masjid Tanah, adding that efforts to rebuild political strength in the area are ongoing.
