KUCHING, Nov 6, 2026 – Sarawak’s 13th State Election will be held on Dec 12, with nomination day scheduled for Nov 28, the Election Commission (EC) announced today.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun announced the dates following a special meeting to finalise the key dates for the state election.

Early voting will take place on Dec 8, while candidates will be given a 14-day campaigning period ahead of polling day.

The announcement officially sets the stage for the election, which will determine the composition of Sarawak’s 82-seat State Legislative Assembly.

The election follows the dissolution of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly on Oct 26, announced by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Under Article 21(4) of the Sarawak State Constitution, a state election must be held within 60 days of the dissolution of the assembly.

In the previous state election held on Dec 18, 2021, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secured a landslide victory, winning 76 of the 82 seats contested.

The 13th Sarawak State Election is expected to draw considerable national attention as political parties intensify their preparations and campaigning efforts to secure the people’s mandate.
