The programme reflects MBPJ’s push to make sustainability part of everyday life, encouraging residents to reduce waste, reuse resources and protect green spaces while adopting healthier lifestyles.
One of the main attractions was the 10km Bukit Gasing Endurance Trail, organised in collaboration with All-Trail Projects. The event drew 378 runners, including 17 international participants from the Netherlands, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Belgium, the Philippines, Indonesia, Poland, Spain and Thailand.
The international turnout highlighted Bukit Gasing’s potential as a nature-based recreation destination for local and overseas runners. The trail event also promoted physical fitness and raised awareness of the importance of conserving urban green spaces.
The programme also saw the official opening of PJ STEM Discovery Park by Sharinaz, expanding opportunities for community-based learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
The facility is intended to encourage young people to explore science and innovation through interactive learning experiences, while developing creativity and critical thinking skills.
Other activities catered to different age groups, including kokedama and healthy bento workshops, an orienteering competition, a colouring contest, fun games and Zumba sessions. The activities combined environmental education with recreation and wellness to encourage wider community participation.
Waste reduction and the circular economy also featured prominently, with initiatives including a used cooking oil collection and purchase programme, an Eco Free Market and a food waste recycling workshop conducted with Hara Makers.
These activities aimed to show residents how responsible waste management, reuse and more efficient use of resources can help reduce waste and limit unnecessary consumption.
MBPJ said building a sustainable city requires more than providing green infrastructure and public facilities. It also depends on consistent action by individuals, families and communities to turn environmental awareness into everyday habits.
The council hopes Petaling Jaya Greenscape 2026 will strengthen cooperation between the local authority, its strategic partners and residents in promoting a greener, healthier and more liveable city for current and future generations.
