KUALA LUMPUR — The upcoming Pakatan Harapan (PH) Convention 2026 is expected to serve as a key platform for the coalition to outline its political direction and election preparations ahead of possible state polls in Johor and Melaka this year as reported by Bernama.
PH communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil described the convention, scheduled for Sunday, as the coalition’s “first beating of the war drums” after four years, with Prime Minister and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim set to deliver the keynote address.
Fahmi said Anwar’s speech was expected to provide guidance on PH’s direction amid speculation surrounding potential state elections and future political developments.
“The highlight will be the address by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Through his message, we will understand PH’s direction regarding rumours of possible state elections in Johor, Melaka and beyond,” he told reporters after attending the Lembah Pantai 2026 Excellent SPM Awards and Teachers’ Day celebration today.
He said the address by the coalition’s top leadership would set the framework for PH’s election machinery at both state and national levels moving forward.
The convention will be held at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Bahru and is expected to gather more than 3,000 delegates from PKR, Amanah and DAP nationwide.
Fahmi, who is also PKR information chief and Communications Minister, said Anwar was also expected to highlight the achievements of the PH leadership and Cabinet in addressing longstanding issues affecting the rakyat during his administration.
However, he said the Prime Minister had yet to indicate any plans for an early 16th General Election (GE16), stressing instead the need for the government to remain focused on resolving public concerns.
According to Fahmi, the MADANI government’s first two to three years in office have centred on implementing reforms and institutional changes promised by the coalition.
Among the major initiatives requiring careful attention, he said, were subsidy rationalisation measures involving RON95 petrol and diesel.
Besides the keynote address, the one-day convention will also feature forums and podcast sessions involving PH’s Youth and Women wings in the morning, followed by discussions with leaders of the coalition’s component parties in the afternoon.
