Kota Kinabalu – – The Sabah Ministry of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport (MINDET) will prioritise the development of three new industrial parks across the state this year, as part of efforts to strengthen industrial growth and expand investment opportunities.
Its Minister and Deputy Chief Minister III, Ewon Benedick, said the projects include the Kudat Blue Economy Industrial Park, Kota Belud Industrial Park, and Beaufort Industrial Park.
He explained that the developments form part of the state government’s broader strategy to enhance the industrial sector, attract investments, and drive more balanced and inclusive economic growth.
“The manufacturing sector is a key driver of Sabah’s economic growth and plays a crucial role in creating more job and business opportunities,” he said during his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly sitting in Kota Kinabalu on Wednesday.
Ewon added that the ministry remains committed to attracting high-impact investments and facilitating investment processes through integrated collaboration with relevant agencies, ensuring Sabah remains competitive as an investment destination.
For the Kudat Blue Economy Industrial Park, he said a master plan is currently being prepared by Sabah Economic Development Corporation (SEDCO). Meanwhile, the Kota Belud Industrial Park, under KKIP Sdn Bhd, already has an approved master plan, with focus now shifting towards infrastructure and utility development.
As for the Beaufort Industrial Park, a land suitability study has been completed, with the next phase involving land acquisition and master planning.
Beyond industrial development, MINDET is also strengthening entrepreneurship initiatives by expanding market access for local products and fostering strategic collaborations with retail chains both domestically and internationally.
The ministry will also conduct training programmes with Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) to raise awareness and compliance on intellectual property protection among entrepreneurs.
Participation in international trade expos will continue to help expand Sabah’s global market reach.
Ewon noted that the export value of Sabah’s manufactured products rose to RM8.78 billion in 2025, up from RM8.31 billion in 2024, reflecting strong potential among local businesses.
To further support local products, the “Buy Sabah-Made Goods” campaign will continue through SME carnivals in districts such as Tenom, Tawau, and Kuala Penyu this year.
The SME-UP 2026 2.0 outreach programme will also be implemented statewide, with the application deadline extended until May 16.
In the transport sector, Ewon said the ministry will begin the Sabah Sustainable Transport Master Plan (SSTMP) study this year.
The initiative aims to provide a long-term framework for a more efficient, integrated, and sustainable transport system.
“This initiative is expected to support the state’s economic growth, improve supply chain efficiency, and strengthen regional connectivity,” he said.
