Kota Kinabalu, April 23 — The United Sabah National Organisation (USNO) has officially withdrawn from the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition, with its president Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Haji Mulia stepping down from his position as Deputy Chairman of GRS and all related government roles.
The resignation was formally conveyed during a meeting with Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Haji Noor, who also serves as GRS chairman, on Tuesday.
USNO’s decision to leave the coalition was unanimously agreed upon during a meeting of its Supreme Executive Council (AMET) held earlier today.
In a statement sighted in Facebook, the party cited a growing lack of alignment in governance approaches and policy directions, particularly following the 17th Sabah State Election (PRU-DU), as a key reason behind its exit.
Despite leaving the coalition, USNO affirmed its commitment to remain an independent political party rooted in the struggle for Sabah’s indigenous communities. It also pledged to continue playing a constructive role in providing checks and balances.
The party expressed appreciation to Hajiji and all GRS component parties for their past cooperation.
USNO added that it will continue to champion the aspirations of marginalized communities in Sabah moving forward.
