KUALA LUMPUR: AI Malaysia Berhad has appointed its inaugural Board of Directors, marking a key step in strengthening the institutional framework for Malaysia’s national artificial intelligence (AI) agenda.

The announcement was made by Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo following the launch of AI Malaysia Berhad by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 28, 2026.

As the Ministry of Digital’s lead agency for AI, AI Malaysia Berhad will coordinate the national AI agenda, promote safe and responsible AI adoption and spearhead the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 towards achieving the country’s AI Nation 2030 ambition.

The inaugural five-member board brings together leaders from the public and private sectors with expertise in national transformation, public policy, digital economy development, investment, technology and AI innovation.

Aireen Omar has been appointed Chairperson. She currently serves as a board member of Tune Protect Group Bhd and adjunct professor at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, and brings more than two decades of experience in business transformation, technology and regional growth.

The board also includes Ministry of Digital Secretary-General Datuk Fabian Bigar and Deputy Secretary-General (Digital Development) Ma Sivanesan a/l Marimuthu.

Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Chief Digital Technology Officer Muhammad Afhzal Abdul Rahman and Trendcell Sdn Bhd chairperson and MyTeksi Sdn Bhd director Foo Yen Ling Adelene complete the inaugural board.

Gobind said the establishment of AI Malaysia Berhad provides Malaysia with a dedicated institution to lead and coordinate the country’s AI development, while the new board will provide strategic leadership, strong governance and diverse public- and private-sector perspectives.

“Further appointments will be made in due course,” he said.

The appointment is expected to strengthen AI Malaysia Berhad’s institutional capacity as Malaysia moves from AI policy and strategy towards coordinated implementation, greater adoption and measurable national impact, with accountability and long-term national interests at the centre of its mandate.
