KOTA BELUD, Aug. 5 — UPKO Kota Belud Deputy Division Chief Carlye Lajimin has announced his intention to contest the post of UPKO Central Youth Chief for the 2026–2029 term at the party’s upcoming Triennial General Assembly  as reported by Nabalu News.

Carlye said his decision to stand for the position was driven by encouragement from grassroots members who are seeking a more progressive, inclusive and action-oriented leadership within the party’s youth wing.

He said UPKO Youth should play a more active role in nurturing young leaders with integrity and competitiveness while serving as a catalyst for entrepreneurship, economic development and human capital growth, particularly in Sabah.

“If entrusted with the responsibility, I will introduce the ‘One Division, One Entrepreneur’ initiative, where every UPKO Youth division will mentor and develop at least one successful young entrepreneur through training, mentorship, business networking and access to financing,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to Carlye, the initiative aims to strengthen grassroots economic participation while creating more employment opportunities for young people.

He also pledged to enhance leadership development programmes for youth members, increase youth participation in the party’s decision-making process, and expand the use of digital technology and social media to better engage younger voters.

Carlye said he would continue championing the “Sabah First” agenda by focusing on human capital development, job creation and the economic empowerment of Sabahans.

Commenting on the party’s youth leadership, he described leadership renewal as a healthy organisational practice that reflects UPKO’s progressive values.

At the same time, Carlye expressed appreciation to incumbent UPKO Central Youth Chief Felix Joseph Saang for his contributions in strengthening the party’s youth wing.

He said Felix’s experience and leadership would continue to be valuable at a higher level within the party to ensure continuity in UPKO’s struggle and future development.

Carlye stressed that his decision to contest was not based on the belief that he was the most qualified candidate, but on his confidence that UPKO Youth has significant potential to become a driving force for the party’s future.

He expressed hope that delegates would support his candidacy and shared vision of building a more progressive, competitive and youth-focused UPKO Youth movement.
