KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (BERSATU) has appointed its secretary-general, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, as the party’s new election director, following a decision by the party’s Supreme Leadership Council (MPT).

In a statement, Azmin said the appointment was made during an MPT meeting chaired by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, which was held last night.

The meeting, which lasted nearly four hours, also agreed to hold a strategic engagement session in June involving BERSATU’s top leadership from Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka. The session aims to refine the party’s new strategies to strengthen public support and advance its “shared prosperity” agenda.

Azmin said the council also discussed ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation among component parties under Perikatan Nasional (PN), stressing the importance of unity within the opposition coalition ahead of upcoming elections.

“BERSATU is confident that strong harmony and unity within PN will give confidence to the people to support the coalition in the coming elections,” he said.

The MPT also agreed to appoint Gombak Setia assemblyman Muhammad Hilman Idham as BERSATU’s representative in the PN Supreme Council.

Azmin described Hilman as a young leader who would bring “freshness and sharp thinking” to PN’s leadership structure.

He said the appointments were part of broader preparations by BERSATU to strengthen its readiness for both general and state elections, while reinforcing cooperation across all levels of party leadership.

The meeting also received briefings from BERSATU’s Johor leadership and instructed the state leadership to intensify discussions and cooperation with PN partners and other willing parties in efforts to bring development and prosperity to Johor.
