KUALA LUMPUR— UMNO has reiterated its continued support for the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan despite ongoing political tensions involving the state’s leadership and traditional institutions.

In a statement following its Political Bureau meeting, the party emphasized that ensuring stability and safeguarding the welfare of the people remain its top priorities.

UMNO confirmed that it will continue backing the Unity Government framework, even as differences emerge within the coalition, said UMNO Secretary-General Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki in a statement.

The party acknowledged recent concerns raised by Barisan Nasional (BN) state assembly members, some of whom have expressed a loss of confidence in the Menteri Besar over issues linked to the handling of adat and the state’s constitutional traditions.

However, UMNO stressed that these developments do not affect its broader commitment to maintaining the coalition government.

UMNO also underscored its long-standing principle of defending the Malay Rulers, noting that the institution remains a fundamental pillar of the nation and is enshrined in the party’s constitution.

To address the growing tensions, UMNO called for an urgent meeting between its Political Bureau and that of Pakatan Harapan.

The discussion is intended to resolve policy differences and strengthen cooperation within the Unity Government, in line with existing agreements between coalition partners.
