LABUAN, April 21 — Revenue collection by the Sabah Ports and Wharves Department is expected to keep rising, driven by strong performance and commitment from its workforce, said state minister Ewon Benedick.

Ewon, who serves as Deputy Chief Minister III and Sabah’s Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, said JPDS’s achievement of more than RM40 million in revenue in 2025 demonstrates its capability and dedication.

He revealed that the department collected RM40,763,969.76 last year, contributing significantly to the state’s coffers.

“Since joining the ministry about five months ago, I’ve consistently seen the high level of commitment from JPDS leadership and officers in discussions. That’s why I’m confident revenue can be further increased,” he said while officiating the JPDS Appreciation and Recognition Ceremony for 2025.

Ewon added that the ministry will continue to play its role in strengthening both revenue performance and staff motivation.

He noted that JPDS is a key contributor to Sabah’s economy, particularly in the maritime sector, and its success reflects efficiency, integrity, and teamwork within the department.

Highlighting the state’s “Sabah First” approach, he said development priorities remain focused on strengthening the local economy and improving public well-being.

Ewon also praised JPDS’s digital transformation efforts, especially the introduction of the E-JPDS application, describing it as a major step forward in enhancing public service delivery and supporting the state’s digital government agenda.

He urged the department to remain proactive in adopting new innovations and expanding digital capabilities.

The ceremony also recognised outstanding staff, including three recipients of the Director’s Special Award and 23 recipients of the Excellent Service Award for 2025.

Among those present were Assistant Minister Jonnybone Kurum, Permanent Secretary Thomas Logijin, Deputy Permanent Secretary Moira David, and JPDS Director Maswandie Maimoon.
