KUANTAN, April 4 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Friday officiated the launch of the country’s first MADANI Mart at Indera Mahkota 8 (IM8), marking a key initiative under the government’s efforts to address the rising cost of living.
Anwar arrived at about 3pm and launched the outlet in the presence of Pahang Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Fuziah Salleh.
During the event, the prime minister also toured the store and made several purchases before continuing with his official programme in Kuantan.
The MADANI Mart initiative, spearheaded by Yayasan Madani, is part of the MADANI Government’s broader strategy to enhance public well-being and tackle cost-of-living challenges comprehensively, as Bernama reported.
Meanwhile, Fuziah said MADANI Mart introduces a community retail concept offering daily necessities at affordable prices and accessible locations, guided by the slogan “Kedai Runcit Harga Rahmah”.
She explained that the initiative emphasises affordability, accessibility and fair pricing in line with the MADANI Economy framework.
“The implementation of MADANI Mart is driven through a strategic collaboration model involving the public, private and social sectors,” she said.
Fuziah added that Yayasan Madani serves as the main coordinator of the ecosystem and supply chain, while the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living supports the initiative through targeted Rahmah sales programmes to ensure essential goods are sold at lower prices.
She said private operators or licence holders are responsible for running the outlets, including investing and maintaining operations to ensure long-term sustainability.
