KUALA LUMPUR, 1 November 2025 — The Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) has successfully hosted, for the first time, the Asia Pacific Committee (APC) Conference of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) in Kuala Lumpur.
The two-day conference, held from 31 October to 1 November 2025 at IBIS Kuala Lumpur, brought together progressive youth representatives and leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region to strengthen solidarity, exchange ideas, and discuss the challenges and aspirations of young people today.
Under the leadership of DAPSY Chief Saudara Woo Kah Leong, the event marked a milestone for Malaysia’s youth movement on the international stage, symbolising the country’s growing role in fostering progressive collaboration across borders.
Building Regional Solidarity
The conference saw participation from youth representatives and comrades from the Philippines, New Zealand, South Korea, Nepal, India, and Taiwan, reflecting the diversity and unity of the region’s youth voices.
The opening session featured welcoming remarks by DAPSY International Secretary Saudara Steven Tiw and Assistant Saudari Kusaaliny a/p Mahendran, followed by an official address by DAPSY Deputy Chief Saudara Wayne Ong Chun Wei.
Delegates then participated in a panel discussion titled “Malaysia’s Position in Asian Geopolitics”, which explored the evolving dynamics of the region, youth movements, and the social changes shaping Asia’s political landscape.
Empowering Youth Through Dialogue
Participants also received valuable insights on Malaysia’s political context from DAPSY Vice Chief Saudara Raja Ahmad Iskandar Fareez, and later examined the youth-led Gen Z protests in Nepal, underscoring the growing demand for political responsiveness and inclusion of young voices in governance.
On the second day, discussions focused on “Malaysian Youth in the Workforce”, highlighting employment challenges, labour rights, and opportunities in a rapidly changing digital economy. Comrades from the Philippines shared their experiences on election strategy and campaign organisation, offering lessons from their recent political milestones.
Strengthening International Cooperation
As a proud member of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), DAPSY Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to advancing socialist and democratic values through youth empowerment, education, and solidarity.
This year’s conference was especially significant as it coincided with Malaysia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN, reinforcing the region’s shared vision of building a just, equitable, and sustainable future for young people across Southeast Asia and beyond.
“This conference is a celebration of unity and progressive ideals,” said DAPSY Malaysia Chief, Saudara Woo Kah Leong.
“We are deeply grateful to Hend Mgaieth, President of the IUSY Secretariat, and to all delegates, speakers, and comrades for their solidarity, ideas, and belief in the power of youth-led change.
Together, we reaffirm our collective commitment to a future grounded in equality, justice, and compassion.”
The conference concluded with renewed determination among delegates to continue building international cooperation, advocating for youth rights, and strengthening democratic movements across the Asia-Pacific region.
