PUTRAJAYA – The newly launched Artificial Intelligence Governance and Ethics (AIGE) guidelines will play an important role to build cyber trust and and resilience in the digital ecosystem, says Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.

During his speech and launching in Putrajaya, Gobind said Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now a big part of our daily lives.

“From business applications to everyday services, AI is making a huge impact in improving our productivity and quality of life by changing the way we work, communicate, and interact.

“In the business, education, finance and health sectors, AI offers huge opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity.

“This can indirectly contribute to the digital economy and the gross domestic product (GDP) of Malaysia.” Gobind highlighted.

He added AI governance and ethics guidelines can strengthen existing laws such as the Cyber Security Act 2024 which came into effect on August 26, and the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 which was recently amended.

Also, at the end of this year, the Digital Ministry will present a draft Data Sharing Bill, which aims to oversee the sharing of data between agencies in the public sector.

AIGE will play an important role when the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO), under the supervision of MyDigital Corporation, begins operations this November.

NAIO will move in tandem with AIGE to build an AI ecosystem to support national digital transformation aspirations.

The combination of NAIO and AIGE will also create an ethical AI ecosystem to drive sustainable growth and make Malaysia an AI hub in the region.

“The AIGE guidelines are also in line with the initiative by ASEAN in producing AI governance and ethics guidelines to promote coordination of AI frameworks among Southeast Asian countries.

“This new development will certainly help Malaysia play its role as ASEAN Chairman 2025.” added Gobind.

Also present during the AIGE Guideline launch Deputy Prime Minister is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Bin Haji Yusof, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Chang Lih Kang, Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dato’ Haji Mohammad Yusof Bin Apdal and Secretary General, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dato’ Ts.
